My First Army...the Long Way Around
Way back in the mists of time, long before the Age of Sigmar, the Age of Chaos, or even the Age of Myth, i started my first Warhammer Fantasy Battle Army.
It was 1996. I had a paper round and had a whole £20 to spend. A friend and i were just taking our first proper steps into the hobby. Over the previous year i'd bought a model here and there, mainly flailing around getting used to just what Warhammer was.
This would be the first proper effort at starting an army. We went to the local Games Workshop, to pick up our army books and choose our first £5 box of miniatures. My friend went with the then brand new Chaos box - If you remember that far back, it was the edition that added the Retinue system to their army, and first divided the force into Warriors, Beastmen and Daemons - whilst i was drawn to a much smaller book.
Not even an Army book in fact.
But 'White Dwarf Presents: Chaos Dwarfs'
That and a box of plastic Big Hats and i was hooked.
Fast forward a few years and Chaos Dwarfs were on the out at GW. They were discontinued, dropped from the background, their lands handed to the Ogre Kingdoms.
And i was forced to find a new army. This was still long before Ebay was a thing, so the second hand route for a teenager was too difficult to navigate. It began my lasting habit of Hobby Butterflying. I couldnt find an army that appealed as much to me.
Several more years and an abusive parent resulted in my loss of my existing Chaos Dwarf collection. Things were dark for the Big Hats.
Until now.
With third edition of Age of Sigmar nearing on the horizon, and the Hobgrots making their entrance to the game and confirming the continued existence of the Chaos Duardin, ive begun a return to my first army. So far its a few models, i hope to add more and feature them here.
So here is the first completed rank of Chaos Duardin, my first in roughly twenty years
